TikTok launches new text based format

Social media platform TikTok will now include text-based posts for its creators to share their ideas and express their creativity as the platform broadens its content format offerings.

The platform is known for its short form video content and has allowed its creators to upload photos, participate in livestreams and to respond to another user’s post through their Duet and Stitch formats thus far.

“With text posts, we're expanding the boundaries of content creation for everyone on TikTok, giving the written creativity we've seen in comments, captions, and videos a dedicated space to shine,” said TikTok in a statement.

TikTok also said that it plans to make its text posts as dynamic or interactive as its video or photo content formats by allowing users to customise their posts with the addition of sound, enabling Duets as well as changing the font and colours of the text.

To create a text post, users will be given a new option of selecting text among photo and video options when they access the camera page.

“Sounds are core to the TikTok experience, which is why we've incorporated them into text posts. You'll be able to add tunes that readers can groove to as they peruse your writing,” the statement also mentioned.

TikTok’s text-based posts will offer features such as stickers, tags and hashtags that relate to relevant topics or trends.

As TikTok expands its sound library, it recently announced that it will be partnering Warner Music Group (WMG) to license the repertoire of Warner Recorded Music and Warner Chappell Music to TikTok, TikTok Music, CapCut, and TikTok's Commercial Music Library, according to a statement by the brand.

“We are happy and excited for our next chapter together with TikTok. Through this expanded and significantly improved partnership for both companies, we can jointly deliver greater value to WMG’s artists and songwriters and TikTok’s users," said Robert Kyncl, CEO of WMG.

Recently, tech company ByteDance launched TikTok Music in closed beta in Australia, Mexico and Singapore, according to the tech giant. The music streaming service will feature an extensive list of over 1,000 artists and millions of tracks.

Interested users are able to participate by downloading the TikTok Music app which will be made available on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Alternatively, users can visit music.tiktok.com to partake in the closed beta test. Participants will be able to enjoy a complementary three-month trial period to test the service.

Additionally, Warner Music Group has announced a wide-ranging, first-of-its-kind partnership that will benefit WMG’s artists and songwriters, and TikTok's billion-plus users around the world. The multi-year, multi-product deal licenses the repertoire of Warner Recorded Music and Warner Chappell Music to TikTok, TikTok Music, CapCut, and TikTok's Commercial Music Library.
