Malaysian buy-now-pay-later app, Atome, has partnered with eCommerce marketplace, TikTok Shop to enable businesses of all sizes, but particularly young entrepreneurs and small and medium enterprises, to harness the potential of online shopping and foster economic growth in the country, according to a LinkedIn post by Atome.

Head of commercial at Atome, William Yang added that by integrating Atome as a payment option on TikTok shop, it can drive eCommerce growth while also providing consumers with the choice, convenience and flexibility of how they want to shop and pay.

He went on to add that this is all done by bringing together content and commerce.

TikTok has been looking to strengthen its relationships with markets outside of the US in recent months. In 2022 alone, TikTok shop expanded to six Southeast Asian countries and is competing with the likes of Shopee and Lazada.

TikTok initially launched its Shop feature on in August last year.

"Over the past few years, Singapore has exceeded its potential as a major eCommerce market, with its projected market volume expected to hit US$11.45 billion by 2025. As more people shop online, TikTok Shop presents the ultimate convergence of content and commerce with unique shoppertainment experiences for all," said TikTok's new business marketing head, APAC Ng Chew Wee at the time of the launch.

"In this way, TikTok Shop not only empowers local businesses to effectively tap onto the platform's fast-growing audience base to drive tangible business results but also affords the delivery of content that delights and entertains – resonating with the right audience across the discovery to purchase stages," Ng added.

Atome is also looking to expand its international partnerships. Earlier this year in April, it expanded its partnership with Hong Kong’s Cathay Pacific to travellers in Malaysia. According to Atome’s LinkedIn, residents in Malaysia consequently had access to a zero-interest deferred payment option when they booked online with Cathay for leisure or business travel.
